John Newmark (1904-1991)
His long collaboration with Maureen Forrester began in 1953; with her he toured the world. He became her friend and artistic collaborator. After a Toronto recital by the team John Kraglund wrote (Globe and Mail, 18 Jan 1960): 'Superb as Miss Forrester was, much of the credit for the exceptionally high quality of the recital must go to Mr. Newmark. Always a reliable accompanist, he gave inspired performances throughout the evening, providing an integral part of each song, without being guilty of either too much or too little.' He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1973.

Newmark accompagne Maureen Forrester dès 1953 et parcourt le monde avec elle. Il sera son ami, son collaborateur artistique. Au lendemain d'un récital de cette dernière à Toronto, John Kraglund écrivait dans le Globe and Mail (18 janvier 1960) : « Aussi superbe que fut Mlle Forrester, une grande part de la qualité exceptionnellement grande du récital doit être attribuée à M. Newmark. Toujours un accompagnateur fiable, il offrit tout au long de la soirée une participation inspirée, son jeu devenant partie intégrante de chaque mélodie, cela sans se rendre coupable de donner trop ou pas assez. » Newmark fut nommé officier de l’Ordre du Canada (1973); il reçut aussi le Prix Denise-Pelletier attribué par le gouvernement du Québec (1988).
